Roald Dahl's life was almost as superb as his literature. Dahl's habits in his life are much like the habits in his novels. He manufactured a clear reference to the tragedies that his individuals are confronted with. One theme that's apparent in almost all of Dahl's work is the application of cruelty by authority figures on the fragile and powerless. Dahl with humor turns this cruelty to become more of a confident, amusing aspect, instead of a negative traumatizing the one that he himself was pressured to overcome. Whether great or unfavorable, at least one personality in each of his novels mimics one individual who had an impact on his life.

There is a great deal tragedy that happened in Dahl's friends and family while he was developing up, even though he was a mother or father aswell. It all commenced when his sister Astri passed away of appendicitis in 1920. A couple of months later, his father, Harald Dahl, quickly deteriorated and passed away of pneumonia. Pneumonia was treatable, but only when the patient was ready to fight to stay alive.
